Alienware is one of the best ones out there for gaming. But I hope you’re willing to spend a lot on one, if you want the most powerful. Check out the Alienware M17x.

The Alienware M17X, with an 920m it costs 2849,00 but then you only have a 160GB HDD. The graphics card at that set-up is more than good (of course you can still go higher).
Deviltech Fragbook DTX(1500,-), it doesn’t pack an 920m, but a 720m(still very capable) and it does have an nvidia GTX 280m, you’ll probably be able to play games at the highest settings for a year or two, actually i’d recommend a desktop, cause you can upgrade the GPU if it begins to lack for the current games. With a notebook you’re stuck to the same set-up, and it’s not upgradeable, save for the RAM and HDD.

It depends on what you want to use the laptop for. You can’t ask for pricing ANYWHERE if you don’t know what you are going to use it for. But, if it is for gaming buy a Dell X series model..something like that. They have teamed up with Alienware and have some pretty awesome laptops costing from $ 600-$ 3,000. I have no idea about anything else for business or everyday use.

Then set your price limit, look at the laptops that have 2GB of RAM and you decide. What I (or others) think of as cool, you probably won’t.

Acer laptops look cool. Kind of a metal finish on top.

Alienware makes an awesome laptop but they’re expensive. If money really is an important issue, go with a Dell.

None. Laptops sacrifice several key features of a desktop in favor of size and portability. One of these is cooling ability. I would not recommend getting a laptop for heavy use.

However, if I had to choose, I would go with something from the panasonic toughbook line. These can be used to stop gunfire and are guaranteed for drops of up to 30 inches. However, the starting price is 1799 and up. Panasonic also makes one for medical professional use, which has special features related to water or liquid repelling.

Another good one is the Toshiba Satellite line. At the top end, these are essentially desktop computers in a clamshell, with 20″ monitors, full keyboards, etc. They are comparable to the sony vaio line in features and dependability, but the Satellites are much cheaper.

I thought I saw Alienware boast their laptop was THE most powerful.
But I also saw that Toshiba claims to have one also.
Then I hear that HP’s Voodoo brags theirs is the best.
and lastly …Dell studio swears they hold the title.
Very confusing….I think there must be some custom built that actually proves to be the best.

“Multiple complex processing”? I never heard that one before.

Anyway, look for a laptop with an Intel Core i7 (best), Intel Core i5, Intel Core 2 Quad, or Intel Core 2 Extreme (2nd best). Try to stay away from AMD processors. Yeah, they’re cheaper than Intel, but they are not the most powerful on the market. Get at least 4 GB of RAM (I recommend DDR3 RAM). Also, make sure your operating system is 64-bit. Get all that and you will be “multiple complex processing” in no time.

Extra Suggestion: If you want more speed, you can get a faster hard drive (7200 rpm) or a solid state drive instead, but they are more expensive. To cs, i9s are not available yet.

Never heard of Multiple Complex. The i9 is the most powerful Intel, and AMD do a similar one for much less. I have actually had a better experience with AMD processors, but that’s just my experience. Go for and i9 or i7. Also, there is an Australian Yahoo answers where people will actually have a clue how much a AUS$ is!!!!!

I’m looking for the highest performing laptop for under $ 600 I can find. I’ve been doing research for days but am getting nowhere. I’d like to be able to play warcraft, watch movies, edit photos and listen to music. You’re going to have to compromise on this one. First of all, since you want to game on it, anything made with Intel is out because their graphics are garbage. So you’re looking at AMD in order to get ATi graphics which you’ll need. I’ve had this ASUS G73SW-XA1 laptop for a good 6months now, i originally purchased it from best buy.
The things that make this laptop amazing is: It just feels like a beast, 8gb of ram, 750hard drive, 17.3″ beautiful screen, and the NVIDIA 460M graphics card if im not mistaken is ranked in the top 5 graphics cards out?, the computers has had no issues running any type of games or videos! Renders videos very quickly as well. Never here a sound from it, it is just so quiet!, i usually have a cooling mat on it as well just to help stay extra cool (even though the internal fans keep it cool anyway). The i7 Processor is just lovely.

Alienware is good, it’s specifically designed for gaming. But it’s also ridiculously expensive. You can find basicly similar specs on other brands (they won’t be exactly the same but not much difference) for so much cheaper.
The one in your link, the Lenovo is amazing!

Look for one with a good graphics card. NVIDIA GeForce 8800 series or ATI Radeon HD series because they have DirectX 10 which is the future of gaming. Get the computer with Windows Vista because it supports DirectX 10.
Get at least 2GB RAM, 3GB is even better. A good processor would be an Intel Core 2 Duo.

Get a computer with all these as minimums and you should have an awesome gaming system that is also affordable.

fyi to other people, alienware is a company acquired by dell that makes extremely overpriced, high-end gaming computers. they make the most powerful pc’s but since they’re the only people who make them, they overcharge for all of them; anything they make that you CAN buy from your local fry’s will be more than twice the price of the fry’s price.
so no one goes to them for anything other than the best. they use the most powerful intel core i7-990X processors, liquid-cooled, big ram/hard drives, multiple graphics cards, and are known for their unique chassis (desktop case). it’s designed for the user to easily access the internal hardware and make changes as they please. these amazing computers easily go into the thousands, plus more for upgrades.

anyways bother with alienware only if you have the money to buy it (seems like from your question that you do), you won’t find a stronger laptop anywhere.

Any with an Intel i7 processor and 4Gb or RAM would be considered “the most powerful”. Any mainline laptop brand, Dell, Toshiba, HP, Acer, Lenovo etc. are good. Personally, i like Toshiba’s but different people have their own favorites.

The Macbook Pro also has an i7 and 4Gb of RAM if you want to go with Mac.

A lot of people are starting to recommend Sager laptops, and they do make high-end laptops. Personally I wouldn’t touch them. They have wildly differing reviews which suggests there is something wrong with their quality control and they have a BBB (Better Business Bureau) rating of F. Hopefully they’ll get better as the machine specs themselves look good.

I can’t tell you that. I can tell you that if you spend 600 pounds or less, Dell laptops are the best for their build quality and value. Other ones are overpriced or unreliable at that price. I work in IT so I’ve done a lot of work on laptops.

Need more info. What will you need it to do? That will make all the difference in what type of ‘power’ you’ll need. If it’s just a question of brand, then any one of them may be able to meet your needs. dig a little deeper into what you may need it to do. that would help get a better answer.

the other thing to consider is the warranty and customer service concerns as well. If you don’t get good customer service, even the best machine will be less than wonderful if you can’t get support.

Personally, I’ve had good luck with HP. I’m using it right now, AND I’ve used their service (with mixed reviews), but overall it’s been fairly positive.

Alienware is WAY overrated! I have two Area-51 laptops and they both have been pieces of crap. Countless hardware issues and slow technical service. I know several others who have had similar encounters with their Alienware computers. They look nice, other than that, they SUCK!

My current laptop is just chugging and I need something faster. It is an HP nc6000 with Intel Pentium M processor 725 – 1.6GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 400MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) and Intel 855PM Chipset. It has 1024-MB of (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM and a 60-GB (5400 rpm) hard drive.

I run statistical and number crunching software all day long. I have been tied to my desktop because I don’t think that there are laptops out there that are as powerful as I need. I think that the school drop out rates are horrible, and the government doesn’t seem to care about the kids who are dropping out. They only seem to care about the “scholars”. I think if the government gave hishschool an incentive like a 4Grand Scholarship to college. I think if they did something like that you would see kids staying in school, then going off to college, and getting better jobs and making a better life for themselves. First of all, the government is the people, and we the people would be paying for all these scholarships. Secondly, I think that scholarships should be reserved for those students that do really well in high school and get good grades. This should be an incentive for these kids to study hard while there are in school. I see way too many kids in the school where I work who are wasting their four years by just goofing off. They don’t deserve a scholarship. Let’s not reward mediocrity, but lets reward excellence.
